Facebook suspends a consultancy that worked for Trump for stealing data from 50 million users

Cambridge Analytica , a consultancy that worked for Donald Trump’s election campaign , has been suspended on Facebook after an investigation by The New York Times and The Observer revealed that they stole data from 50 million users. According to the investigation, the company, founded in the United States and with a British parent company, obtained a database with supposed academic use, but exploited them to elaborate electoral strategies in 2014 . Two years later, he worked on the election campaign for Donald Trump. Cambridge Analytica obtained the data through a psychologist at the University of Cambridge named Aleksandr Kogan , who had permission from Facebook to obtain user data in order to create an application for academic purposes. In exchange for $ 800,000, Kogan shared the information with Cambridge Analytica. Now, Facebook has revealed that “Kogan lied to us and violated our policies by passing data to Cambridge Analytica, a firm that carries out political, governmental and military work throughout the world ,” the Californian company said in a statement.
