New York agencies sent a notification Friday morning for an AMBER Alert in Wayne County.
Owen Hildago-Calderon, who is about 14 months old, was abducted on Joy Road in the Wayne County town of Sodus at 9:48 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16.
The AMBER Alert notification was sent at 9:57 a.m. Friday.
Owen is Hispanic and has short brown hair and brown eyes.
He is approximately 2 feet tall and weighs about 30 pounds.
Owen is known to need asthma medication.
County Sheriff said they believe they are operating “a recovery effort for Owen.”
Owen’s mother’s body was found Wednesday morning in a bag hidden in the woods on a farm where she worked.
Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, 18, had been missing for a week.
Police have not yet said how she died.
Her boyfriend, Everardo Reyes, was arrested on charges of tampering with physical evidence.
NBC affiliate WHEC reports Reyes admitted to helping hide Selena Hidalgo-Calderon’s body but said he did not kill her.
Rebecca Fuentes of the Workers’ Center of Central New York told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that Hidalgo-Calderon was from Guatemala and was being deported.
She said the mother was in the process of applying for asylum.
Owen’s biological father lives in Guatemala.
Police have not said who may have abducted Owen or where he might be.
The AMBER Alert notification was sent after Owen’s mother was found dead.
Plattsburgh police said they had no information about the child abduction before the AMBER Alert was activated.
The notification was intended for regions 2, 3 and 4 of the New York AMBER Alert system but was received by residents outside of that geographic area.
NBC5 viewers in Vermont also reported receiving the alert.
Any one who has information on the case or has seen the boy should immediately call 866-NYS-AMBER or dial 911.
